Micro-needling machines have become commonplace in the beauty treatment world. From spas to dentists, more and more businesses are offering this service to help with everything from acne scars to tightening loose skin. With so many places offering these services, it’s important to know exactly what micro-needling machines are and what they do so you can be informed.
What are Micro-needling Machines
While various machines do various things, they all have one key feature in common – lots of small, thin needles. The needles might be fitted onto a cylinder and rolled across the skin, attached to a flat surface and stamped into the skin, or arranged in a pattern on the tip of a pen-shaped instrument.
The cylinder and the stamp methods are both manual versions of the treatment, while the method using the pen-shaped instrument is a mechanical method that fires the pins rapidly in and out of the skin.
Speaking of that, various micro-needling devices have different depth settings. Some have needles that are so short they only penetrate the topmost layer of skin. This layer is mainly dry, dead skin. However, other needles are deeper and designed to penetrate past the outermost layer of skin and deeper into layers that have living cells, nerves, and blood vessels.
The Benefits of Microneedling
Micro-needling machines are so popular because they offer a variety of benefits. Unlike some other beauty treatments, micro-needling has been shown to actually do what it says it can do. This is most likely why they’ve become so popular. Microneedling has been shown to help with:
- Hair loss
- Dark spot and patches on the skin
- Large pores
- Reduced skin elasticity
- Stretch marks
- Sun damage
- Fine lines and wrinkles
How Microneedling Works
Micro-needling works by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This is achieved by pricking the skin repeatedly with small, thin needles. While older methods involve only the needles, new machines also use either SRF or RF technology.
SRF machines use Short Radio Frequency in conjunction with repeated pricking to help with cosmetic issues such as skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, and to improve the appearance of areas like the neck.
RF machines use Radio Frequency in conjunction with repeated pricking to address many of the same issues along with dermatological concerns, firming and smoothing of the skin, and sculpting of the facial area.
My Experience with Micro-needling Machines
My dentist actually offers microneedling services, and I recently had a session in which he used a microneedling machine called the Agnes. It’s one of two popular machines that are used today – the Agnes and the Scarlet.
The Scarlet uses SRF technology to help with face and scalp skin tightening, neck rejuvenation, and body skin tightening. Its teardrop-shaped short radio frequency redensifies the layers of the skin to restore collagen and elastin and provide a more youthful appearance.
The Agnes uses RF technology to target pockets of fat on the face that are part of the natural aging process. Targeting these areas safely shrinks the pockets to offer a more youthful appearance by addressing firming, tightening, smoothing, and sculpting.
I received an Agnes treatment to tighten the skin on my face and neck. As with all micro-needling procedures, it caused the skin on my face and neck to become red and inflamed. However, that subsided in a day or two.
In just about a week, I began to see an improvement. Although it was only a slight change, I’m excited because I know that the full effect of these procedures isn’t seen for up to six weeks.
Microneedling Machines Live Up to the Hype
I was leery of micro-needling in the past because I’ve been taken in by so many over-hyped products that either under-delivered or didn’t deliver at all. I decided to take a chance on micro-needling machines because I trust my dentist. I’m so glad I did.
Micro-needling machines absolutely work. I’m already seeing a change, and I can’t wait to see what the coming weeks bring. If you’ve been on the fence about micro-needling, I highly encourage you to give it a try. I did, and I’m so pleased with the results.
