My family takes any opportunity we can to get into the city. We love the bright lights busy streets, and continuous noise! Last week we were invited in to attend School Of Rock on Broadway along with a talk back with the cast. Big gans of the movie, that we have watched numerous times. Maybe because my husband worked on it, and the school itself that my son attends we were all filled with excitement. Especially because as many of you know JD has a broken arm, and since has missed his end of season School of Rock Show! (Tears were shed, for all the countless hours he spent practicing).
Based on the hit film, School of Rock –
The Musical is a hilarious new musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within. The cast is filled with mostly children, which gave my son so much hope and anticipation for what his future holds as a bass guitar player. The music was catchy, the theme was uplifting and everyone was ready to jump out of their seats to sing and dance.
After the show which was two and half hours, we attended a intimate talk back with the cast. Speaking with the kids we learned of the rehearsal schedule, study schedule, and who there go to person on the set is. Speaking with the cast who range from the ages of nine to thirteen, also encouraged my son to begin singing lessons. Something I have been trying to do for months!
